What are Current Transformers?

Electrical equipment that provide a flow of current in the secondary circuit that is directly proportional to the amount of flowing current with its principal circuit is called current transformers. Current transformers are the ones responsible in calculating the current so that the operation of power grid is monitored. This type of electrical instrument is widely used for the purpose of safety in any establishment that utilizes electricity at considerably large amount of voltage.

For metering and protective measures, current transformers are used. This equipment is very important among companies within the giant industry such as electrical power industry. The safety is guaranteed and made even easier through this tool.

How do current transformers work?

Current transformers cut off voltage flow securely so that only lower amount of current would flow, allowing the overloading of electric supply be minimized. This equipment controls electric current by allowing the voltage flow to pass through the windings of wire being wrapped around the well-insulated toroidal core. Current transformers measure the flow current, giving the necessary data to the reader so that the power being used at particular time and length of time would be monitored.

There are some factors that we also need to know about current transformers.
